ReplyDelete1) south Bronx is prcieved as a bad place to be around. People also say it smells bad because of the garbage lots.
ReplyDelete2)ms. Carter believes she can change the perseption of the way south Bronx is viewed by adding more recreational areas such as parks and other public areas. She also wants to bring the community together to achieve a comments goal.
3)the evidence that ms.carter used was a valid source of information through pictures. She compared pictures she took from south brinx and compared them to that of new Orleans after hurricane Katrina. This definitely opened the eyes of those attending in that presentation.
4) I think that her plan is achievable through effort, will power and consistancy. With these elements she will strive to achieve a better environment in south Bronx.
5) this video will definitely help me in the long run to create my city in the long run. I now have some ideas to gain the support of the people living in my city. Though i know my scenario may change I can still stratagjze my approach to building my city

ReplyDelete2 - Ms. Carter hopes to change this perception by adding more parks to make the environment better and the air cleaner.
3 - The evidence that Ms. Carter supplies is the fact of how many kids in the Bronx have asthma (1 out of 4) and are hospitalized for it, she also uses pictures of the parks and their transformations.
4 - I do believe Ms. Carter’s expectations and hopes are realistic, the south Bronx compared to full cities is small, and recently full scale cities have been doing transformations in the way their homes appear (ex. Adding tree’s, maintaining parks) If a large city can add more tree’s and parks than so can the South Bronx
5 - This video can help you design a future city because it helps you keep in mind what your people would really want. Remembering that fresh air, trees and sunshine can really brighten peoples moods taking care of the environment is a must. In addition to that making sure things like factories and garbage dumps are away from people is important for their happiness and health.

1)That it's just a place where all the sewage and waste goes from the city and used as a natural dumping grounds and smells foul due to this illegal dumping.
ReplyDelete2)That getting rid of the pollution and by rebuilding structures that support the natural environment and the community being built there.
3)the pictures of the household's that were destroyed by katrina to comparison to the run-down and remains of the abandon south bronx housing.
4)Her plan could be realistic, but to make it into a reality she'll need money and the support of that community to change what others have done to illegal dumping and pollution from the city.
5)it help's you get a general idea how a progressive city should not only have non- destructive environmental damage, and help provide the community to any changes that would come to better it to keep the residents happy and prosperous.

1. The common perception of the South Bronx is very unpleasing to the eye. It is said that the only persons to come out of South Bronx are Pimps, Pushers, and Prostitutes. This area was considered disheveled, meaning unkempt, or disarranged. This conclusion was drawn due to the amount of waste in or surrounding the area. This due to Sewage treatment and pelletizing plants and 4 other electrical power plants.
ReplyDelete2. Ms Carter hopes to change peoples view of the area by getting rid of pollution and rebuilding architecture that was sought to sustain nature as a whole for example adding more parks and growing more trees.
3. The evidence Ms Carter uses to support her argument were images that illustrate South Bronx and New Orleans similarities in damage after Hurricane Katrina, and further evidence of damage to recreational areas.
4. I definitely think that Ms Carter's hopes for South Bronx are realistic. As a person living in her area, it wasn't unusual to be grouped with the "pimps, prostitutes, and pushers" that defined South Bronx. Ms Carter, ashamed per say, of her community created the Dream to clean it up. Seeing other communities strive when it came to creating a more "green" environment, not expecting such a quick change, Ms Carter asks to start small. Just by Cleaning up after yourselves especially outside could be the start to making a world of change. Dedication is Key and Ms Carter delineates a gracious amount of care and dedication to this project.
5. This video can help me design a future city because it reminds me that landscape and climate have a lot to do with whether or not your city is successful. This video also shows how important cleanliness in your environment is. A tip would be to keep trees around, They help!

Both areas were populated that gradually became ghetto areas overtime. The pictures showed the factories that produced pollution that led people to have asthma, obesity, and diabetes in the area.
4. Yes I do believe that Ms. Carter's hopes are realistic for the South Bronx because none of her ideas are over exaggerated that it can't happen. She shows that she is determined to start building parks in the area and change her home land for the better this will help lessen pollution.
5. This video can help me design a future city by: Keeping the city clean, safer environment for all ages of people, and make people more aware of things to look out for, such as natural resources.

The common perception of the South Bronx is dirty and unpleasant. Ms. Carter hopes to change this perception by replacing abandoned, polluted areas with cleaned up park areas. The evidence Ms. Carter provided to support her argument were pictures. For example, as she was walking her dog, they came across a polluted area. Ms. Carter wanted to make it better. So she did. I think that Ms.Carter's hopes for the South Bronx are realistic because of how small she began to the point she's at now. This video can help me design a future city by teaching me to take certain things such as parks, gardens. and things that wont harm my city, into consideration.

4)Ms. Carter is absolutely on her way of making a change for the South Bronx.
5)This mini clip can inspire me to understand that I cant forget about some parts of my city I can have to remember to keep it all around safe for every citizen.
1) The South Bronx is perceived to be dirty, musty, and noxious, due to its garbage lots and pollution.
ReplyDelete2) Miss Carter hopes to change this perception by ridding the South Bronx of unnecessary pollution, in areas in which people are living, to use tools that work in harmony with the environment, as well as building more parks.
3) Miss Carter uses images of past natural disasters that occurred in New Orleans, such as Hurricane Katrina, as well as a few prime examples of young children with asthma, getting the asthma from all of the toxic gasses and pollution in the air.
4) I do not think Miss Carter's expectations are realistic, simply because not everyone would want to build more parks and clear the air, help the environment, because larger corporations make larger amounts of money off of building more factories etc.
5) This video can help me design a city because it is a reminder to slow down and think about how many buildings we are making, how many factories I build, how much pollution that would give off and how it would harm the people living in my city. I couldn't harm the people living in my city. It would need to be a safe place for them to live.
1. The common perception of South Bronx is known as 'The Hood' or 'South side'. This place is filled with drug dealers and hookers, and has disgu sting trash that no one picks up all over the place. 2. Ms. Carter urges people to throw away their trash; also she plans to construct parks, bike routes, and zoos. 3. She whipped out a picture of New Orleans and compared it to South Bronx. If you didn't know New Orleans went through a major natural disaster some time ago. South Bronx was just as bad as post-Katrina New Orleans. So sad. 4. Unfortunately I don't see this happening. She could build all these parks and stuff, but eventually it will be overrun with Hookers and Dealers of the Drug. 5. This could help me design a future city by learning from other designers mistakes, and by listening to the people!
ReplyDelete1. The common perception of the South Bronx is that the South Bronx is a filthy place to live. The South Bronx was basically a garbage disposal. According to the people that lived there it was dirty and disgusting and filled with garbage and factories.
ReplyDelete2. Ms. Carter hopes to change this perception by adding more recreational areas like parks which would be nice and healthy for the environment. She wants to rebuild structures that support the natural environment.
3. The evidence that Ms.Carter used to support her evidence was photographs from run down locations in the South Bronx. She provided evidence of parks being destroyed. She compared these pictures to pictures after hurting Katrina in New Orleans. this was a major step which grasped the attention of many people.
4. I personally believe Ms.Carter's expectations and hopes are realistic. i believe that it can happen even though if takes time, patience, support and most importantly MONEY ! I feel if she doesn't have these things doing everything by herself can become a bit overwhelming.
5. This video can help me design my city because it shows you what makes up a bad environment so ill know what to put in my city and what not to put.

ReplyDelete2.Ms.Khan says that the creation of public space lead to profit because it provides safety more people will show up to the cities. Now that they have these public space in time square it is one of the top ten retail locations on the planet.
3.I agree with this statement , people would say anything to convince other people to get there way especially if it's there job. Also because i live in Queens it would be very diffcult for me to travel to manhattan on a bike.Another reason is because people live so far it is more likely for them not to be safe because these type of bike places and public spaces are not everywhere they are most likely in manhattan. Not everyone has the same situation as the city people it is harder for us to travel all they way to a location on a bike.
4.The TED corroborates with last nights TED because the both wanted to build puncle spaces and create a better environment and sagety net for society.
5. I can use this TED to complete my final project by taking into consideration that public spaces provide sloutions. Solutions in economic situations , and safety.
This mantra changed the street of NYC by creating more room or spaces for bikes and buses. Also tried to create more street lanes, due to the 350,000 people that travel throughout Time Square daily. I can use this TED talk to complete my project because it gives an economic view point and value of creating more space for the people of NYC to enjoy and relax at the same time. Throughout both videos these women speak similarly about how places in NYC such as The South Bronx and Time Square could be a better place and community to the people if we just add a variety of spaces and even parks. That creating these things may lower such expectations of the different cultures.

4) Yes I think Ms. Carter hopes are realistic because she turned a river with garbage around it, into a park. The harder she works the more possible it becomes.

ReplyDelete1. The common perception of the South Bronx is that the surroundings and the environment is very much filthy , due to the garbage and the pollution of the air , and also there are pimps , hoes and prostitutes.
2. Ms.Carter hopes to change the perception by nurturing the environment just by adding more green into the communities and running a project called the "Bronx Ecological Stewardship Training" which doesn't only help the people but also helps the environment.
3. The evidence that Ms.Carter used was the hurricane Katrina that occurred in New Orleans , she stated that ; Both New Orleans and the Bronx are largely populated by people of color and they both have culture innovation.
4. I honestly think with the help of the people in the community working as a unit in can make the Bronx a better place and by Ms.Carter still running the programs she can get through the struggle that she has been going through for years.
5. The video can help me construct my future city just by listening to the things she was saying and taking her past experiences into consideration for me to try and make my city a better place for people to live.

5- the video can help me by planning my city outline more smarter so he city can be more environmentally friendly
1- The common perception of the South Bronx is that the area is dirty and musty, due to all the garbage that has been dumped in the past.
ReplyDelete2- Ms. Carter hopes the change the perception by getting there to be more parks, clean the road to the river, cleaning up normal locations and connecting more places together, using more environmentally friendly tools.
3- Bits of evidence used by Ms. Carter include photos of run down locations in the South Bronx, similar to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, and providing evidence of parks being destroyed.
4- I do think Ms. Carter's expectations are realistic. Places being revamped environmentally is happening all over NYC. Fixing up parks and public roads just doesn't sound to me like such an 'out there' idea.
5- This can help me design a future city by seeing what would make others happy, and build on those ideas. Being the ruler of a city, you need to listen to the people who live in your area to help you get ideas about whatever you need to build or what adjustments need to be made.
